Harve Dethlefs began Bighorn Logging Corp. in 1981, after a 20 year career for
Oregon-based electronics company, Tektronix. Bighorn Logging has been a
leader of timber harvesting and forest management in NW Oregon ever since. The
industry has changed drastically over the last 30 years; as President, Harve has
kept ahead of those changes by always upgrading to the newest machinery and
technology. Continuing to be a leader in the industry, Harve started another
business venture, Biomass Harvesting LLC, in 2007. Biomass Harvesting
manufactures hog fuel out of the slash and woody debris left over after logging
and transports it to cogeneration facilities where it is burned to make electricity.
This type of green energy is at the forefront of Oregon's efforts to be at the
leading edge of technology that best utilizes our natural resources.
In his spare time, Harve enjoys the outdoors and is an avid hunter and fisherman.
He loves to fish on his property on the Trask River, and continues to hunt every
fall in Oregon as well as throughout the Western U.S. and British Columbia. Harve
has been part owner of Eureka Peak Lodge and Outfitters near 100 Mile House
B.C. since 2003.
Vice President Mark Standley, Jr. has been working for the company since 2002.
He is also Operations Manager at Biomass Harvesting, LLC. In 2008, Mark worked
with Associated Oregon Loggers to create a tree climber rescue that is now used
for training purposes across Oregon. In his spare time, Mark is a Captain for the
Amity Fire District. He is also a certified medical First Responder, as well as a
Medic First Aid Instructor.
Secretary/Treasurer Denise Dethlefs has been with the company since 1994, after
graduating from the University of Oregon. Denise has been active in the Camp 18
Loggers Memorial. In 2007, she was named Associated Oregon Loggers' Woman
of the Year. In her spare time, Denise is active in her community and serves on
the board of the Banks Community Foundation.
